Artist on the Rise ~ Fernando Garcia Rosas

Artist on the Rise ~ Fernando Garcia Rosas

Mexican American artist Fernando Garcia Rosas is one to watch. His work is bold, colorful, contemporary figurative expressionism. He recently had his first exhibit at the 326 gallery. Next up a show in Los Angeles. We recently stopped by his studio, had a chat and snapped a few pics -- check gallery below. On a blue note; Fernando's eyes. #blueisthewarmestcolor

Q:  We were impressed with your usage of our favorite color blue! is it a go-to color for you?

A:  I love blue too! I love all colors but blue in particular was very dominant this past exhibition because of my state of mind. It is a very spiritual color and promotes creativity and exploration. As it was my first show I was drawn to it naturally to findmy balance.

Q:  What is your most valued blue possession?

A:  I don't really care about material possessions like most people so I don't tend to have many! But I am a rabid reader so I guess it would have to be my copy of Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse.

Q:  What artists inspire you the most?

A:  I draw inspiration from Ecuadorian painter Oswaldo Guayasamín, Austrian painter Egon Schiele, American painter Jean Michel Basquiat and Chilean musician Victor Jara.

Q:  Are you particular in scheduling time for your art? how does your creative process work?

A:  I obsess about the idea of making art everyday but I understand that creativity is not something that can be turned on and off at certain hours. So everyday I make art on different times. My creative process starts with an abstract idea of what I want to "say" with colors and lines.I'm enamored by social justice and Latin America's Political history.

Q:  Does creating help you get out of a blue mood, or does it sometimes put you in one?

A:  It's kind of both. If I don't make art I find myself getting more and more blue the longer I go with out it. And when I am making art I go thru all sorts of emotions. Like a wild roller coaster from ecstatic happiness to unending sadness...

Q:  Who is your favorite muse?
A:  My Bae, my fighter, my lover and my life partner Jackie Cruz. She inspires me everyday. There is no other person in this world that makes me feel so much passion toward my art and love.
